New Year, etc.

Tue Jan 2, 2007, 12:59 AM
So this is the first thing I've learned this year:

On /p/ they were talking about macro photography. Someone mentioned that you can just take the lens off the body and flip it around and it's a fairly effective macro lens.

This changes everything.

I need to go buy more film.

Anyways.

My Christmas was meh, but New Year's made up for it.

I haven't tried simply reversing a lens and holding it up to the body, but I've attached a 50mm lens backward to the front of another lens with a special adapter ring (pic of my setup), and it works quite well. Very limited DOF though. That's how I've shot all of the macro shots in my gallery (which you commented on a few months ago). I understand that proper macro lenses have more depth of field, but this is a great way to experiment with macro for very little money.
I have some shots I took of a chameleon using the setup I mentioned, I'll scan the negatives tomorrow or something. I've had some difficulties with it though. Out of 24 shots, only about 8 were remotely usable. My camera doesn't want to use anything but the bulb setting when the lens is off, so a few turned out really blurry. DOF is way tiny, though, definitely. Although I did all of the shots at 2.8 -- I'll have to try it at a smaller aperture. It seemed too dark though when I looked through the lens at anything else.
The Balousek way of life.......Instead of making direct human contact, the Balousek prefers indirect means of engaging the human species. So, being a Balousek, I googled up my relatives this morning to see if any of them had been arrested lately. Nope, all clear, so no laughs at someone else's expense this morning. Ah well. But, great news......when "Matthew" is replaced by Matt(as in Balousek) there you were!
I am BLOWN-AWAY (to use a middle-aged expression) by your work. Really.
